The Truth About Ellies Share Price Forecast: Past Performance and Current Status of Brand Survival

An image investigating the Ellies share price analysis.

Ellies Share Price has been quiet lately. Our analyst observed that the lack of sufficient data from its past performance and vague price forecast made it unlikely to predict future earnings.

With numerous headlines about financial strain and liquidation, the venture of brand survival cuts through the hype of Ellies Share Price.

That’s why the focus of this TRU Insight is now shifted to whether the brand can survive and what that means for investors. As Ellies Holdings Ltd. navigates restructuring efforts and market skepticism, its share price becomes less about short-term gains and more about strategic positioning.

Is this the calm before a rebound, or the final chapter in a long-standing JSE listing?

Read on to unveil the truth.

Ellies Share Price Data and Analysis

Ellies Holdings Ltd was once listed under the stock symbol JSE: ELI.

But with the ongoing liquidation process, this firm is currently suspended from actively trading on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE).

The provided table below shows the last traded date of Ellies share price on April 22, 2024:

52-Week Range ZAC 0.01 to ZAC 1.00
Market Capitalization R8,054,003
P/E Ratio  0 (Not Applicable)
Dividend Yield  0% (Last paid in 2012)
Average Volume 2.24 million shares

Ellies Share Price was on the brink of its downfall in the first quarter of 2024, culminating in its suspension on the JSE. This is evidently shown in its stagnant 52-week range, and the market cap of R8 million signifies the large drawback of investors.

Meanwhile, the presented zeros on the P/E ratio and the last payout of dividend yield in 2012 mean that shareholders haven’t received any income in over a decade.

Above all, this negative forecast, the average volume of 2.24 million shares traded before the suspension in 2024, shows that there were still investors who were once loyal to Ellies share price.

Ellies Holdings Ltd Company Status

With Ellies Holdings Ltd’s financial constraints, it’s just safe to investigate further not only into the data but also into the company’s overall standing.

Our analyst intricately traces the origins and timeline to give us full insights that are thoroughly discussed below:

Company and Management

Dr. Shaun Prithvirajh served as CEO of Ellies Holdings Ltd from 2018. His leadership marks a period of volatility. His strategic pivots of attempting an acquisition of Bundu power were unsuccessful, and this only failed his company. Consequently, the heavy toll of losses started with multiple resignations of his employees.

Past Performance

Ellies Holdings has been losing money steadily over the past few years. On average, its earnings dropped by nearly 20% each year, while revenue also declined by about 8% annually. In 2023, the company reported a loss of R0.11 per share, which was worse than the R0.079 loss in 2022.

This downward trend started after a brief profit in 2021, when Ellies earned R0.12 per share. But the company couldn’t keep up with changes in the market. Competitors in the satellite and energy sectors moved faster, leaving Ellies behind.

Financial Health

By the end of 2023, Ellies Holdings was in serious financial trouble. The company had negative equity of R58.5 million. Its total liabilities were R294.1 million, while its assets were only R235.6 million.

The debt-to-equity ratio was -299.6%, which shows the company was deeply in debt and not financially stable. With just R5.87 million in cash, Ellies didn’t have enough funds to keep operating for long. These numbers made it clear the business couldn’t survive.

Timeline of Ellie’s Holdings Brand Survival

To have a better outlook on what went wrong somewhere along the timeline, here’s a clear breakdown of events:

January 2024

On January 31, Ellies Holdings officially entered voluntary business rescue under Section 129(1) of the Companies Act. This decision followed the company’s failure to secure funding for a critical acquisition deal involving Bundu Power, which was meant to revive its operations. A business rescue practitioner was appointed shortly after to assess the company’s prospects.

April 2024

By April 10, the business rescue practitioner concluded that Ellies had no reasonable prospect of recovery. The company then filed for liquidation, marking a significant shift from rescue to closure. On April 22, trading of Ellies share price is no longer available and was voluntarily suspended on the JSE.

July 2024

On July 30, Ellies Holdings was officially placed under final liquidation by court order. This marked the end of its run as a listed entity on the JSE. Its operating subsidiary, which is Ellies Electronics, also ceased operations later that month.

But the Ellies brand didn’t disappear. In mid-July, SMD Technologies stepped in and bought the Ellies electrical brand. SMD is known for selling tech products like Volkano and Logitech in South Africa. They plan to keep the Ellies name alive by improving its products and expanding its reach in stores.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there any realistic upside for Ellies in the future?

According to our technical forecast, the harsh truth suggests that the current status of Ellies weighs a heavy toll, which is far from visualizing its upside return.

What does negative asset value mean for investors?

Negative asset value means the company owes more money than it owns. For investors, this is a red flag. It suggests the company is in deep financial trouble and may not be able to recover. If you invest, there’s a high chance you won’t get your money back.

Conclusion: JSE:ELI Sentiment and Investor Outlook

Ellies Share Price fall from the JSE shows how quickly things can change when a company struggles to keep up. Its poor financial health, missed opportunities, and failed rescue efforts led to liquidation, leaving investors with little hope for recovery.

While the Ellies brand may continue under new ownership, the sentiment around its stock remains cautious. For investors, this is a reminder to stay informed and watch for early warning signs before making decisions.
