Having been in the industry for several years, the company became one of the most popular stockbrokers in local and international markets.
In this blog, we will discover what makes EasyEquities unique and worth investing in. We’ll also give you a quick tour of its features and review its use for investors worldwide.
Overview
- Easy Equities is a South African stockbroker authorized by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA).
- Among the benefits of EasyEquities is that it has low stock and ETF fees. Plus, it does not charge any inactivity or withdrawal fee.
- Some downsides to EasyEquities include not having a live chat and the company phone support being slow and unhelpful.
What is Easy Equities?
EasyEquities is a stockbroker company based in Johannesburg, South Africa. The CEO, Charles Savage, founded the company in 2014.
Easy Equities is a product of the First World Trader (Pty) Ltd—a Purple Group Limited (JSE:PPE) company. As a funded company, its institutional investor is Base Capital.
It currently operates as an online platform for fractional equity investments and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) investments on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE).
There are three main features that Easy Equities focuses on, namely:
Transparency
EasyEquities prides itself on being transparent about its costs and fees. Users would not need to wonder where the costs go.
The company sees to it that they communicate fees upfront during transactions. They also give a breakdown of line items when giving the transaction invoice.
Users can access their cost profile on their website.
Support
EasyEquities’s Help Centre is always available to answer any questions or uncertainties users may have about any service they receive.
If the problem remains unresolved, users can always log their query. Their Easy team will do their best to get in touch within 24 hours.
System Status
Easy Equities offers a System Status report to give users real-time data on the status of their platform. This is especially useful during intermittent connectivity or buggy access to their EasyEquities app.
How Does EasyEquities Work?
Charles Savage saw the need to address the inequalities that South Africans face in accessing investments in the financial markets.
So, EasyEquities offers a democratic approach to equity investments using their patented Fractional Share Rights model.
This model allows investors to buy and sell small portions of equities found on stock exchanges.
Currently, Easy Equities is offering access to local and international markets. Their team continuously seeks new ways to extend their offering to various markets and asset classes.
As an entry-level investment service, Easy Equities provides easy access to equities and ETFs listed on the JSE.
Their platform permits fractional ownership of shares down to 1/1000th of a share. They do not charge monthly fees and have no minimum required investment.
EasyEquities also has super low commissions. Users can invest using any amount they can afford through their fractional share rights.
EasyEquities’ vision involves making the world of financial markets more accessible to the everyday investor.
Introducing the Easy Equities App

Here are the accounts you can invest with using your EasyEquities app:
ZAR Account
The South African Rands (ZAR) account is where you can invest in ETFs and local shares.
Tax-Free Savings Account
As the name suggests, this savings account allows you to invest up to R500 000 a year without paying taxes.
This means that the profit you make on your investments, the interest you earn in cash, and the dividends you receive remain tax-free with this account.
There are restrictions, though. Among these are:
- The maximum investment you can make annually in this account is only R36 000.
- Your investment cannot include single shares. Rather, you can only invest in Collective Investment Schemes like ETFs.
- Exceeding the lifetime (R500 000) and annual (R36 000) limits is prohibited. Otherwise, SARS will give you a 40% penalty on the excess.
US Dollar Account
The US dollar account offers access to shares listed in the United States. If you are keen on becoming a shareholder in companies like Amazon, Apple, and Facebook, this is the account you can take.
The Easy Equities app allows you to invest in American shares like you would invest in local shares on their platform.
To do this, you can transfer funds from your ZAR account to your USD account. This will convert your rands into dollars. After the conversion, you can invest as you normally do.

The AU dollar account allows you to access shares listed in the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX).
Like in the US dollar account, you can start by turning your rands into Australian dollars. To do this, transfer funds from your ZAR account to your AUD account.
Likewise, you invest your money as you normally would after you convert your money.
Euro Account
With the euro (EUR) account, you can invest in European shares similarly to how you would invest in local shares on the platform.
Start by transferring your funds from the ZAR account to your Euro account. Once your rands convert into euros, you can invest as usual.
GBP Account
The Great British Pound (GBP) account allows you to invest in British shares in a way similar to how you would invest in local shares on the EasyEquities app.
Start by converting your rands into pounds by transferring funds from the ZAR account to the GBP account.
After the conversion, invest as you normally would.
EasyProperties Account
This account enables you to invest in the property market. It is similar to investing in shares found on EasyEquities.
EasyProperties is an online platform providing investors access to fractionalised shares in new and current property developments.

Demo Account
Even practicing provides profit. In this account, Easy Equities gives you $10,000 in a USD account and R100 000 in a ZAR demo account.
The ZAR and USD Demo accounts involve play-play money so you can experience how things work on the platform.
