Amplats Financial Health
Strong financials
Amplats has demonstrated strong financial health for the fiscal year 2024. The company reported an Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization (EBITDA) of USD 5 billion for the first half of 2024. This robust revenue was attributed to stable production of platinum.
Meanwhile, platinum production was maintained for 2024, with metal-in-concentrage PGM production and refined production between 3.3 to 3.7 million ounces. Moreover, production of refined Platinum Group Metals (PGMs) increased by 22% from the same period last year.
Amplats was able to deliver a strong revenue with consistent production.
Dividend yield lower than competitors
The Amplats dividend yield or 3.26% is quite lower compared to competitors such as Exxaro Resources, Impala Platinum, and Sibanye Stillwater that offered bigger dividends.
However, the strong revenue and consistent production more than made up for the last payment of R1.18 per share, which is among the average of its competitors except Exxaro Resources.

Amplats demerger
In November, Anglo American, the parent group of Amplats, announced that it is under the process of demerging Amplats and is on track to complete by the middle of 2025.
Anglo American said they would dispose of its steel-making coal, platinum, diamonds, and nickel operations as it moves its focus to copper and crop nutrients.
Meanwhile, they also sold 17,500,000 ordinary shares of Amplats, representing 6.6% of the total issued ordinary share capital of the company.
The shares were sold at a price of R548 per share, which was interpreted negatively by shareholders. Market watchers had pointed that this was a price for the bottom of the market.
Why did Amplats share price rocket in 2022?
Within the first week of March 2022, the Amplats share price reached a new high of R2,675.47 per share. This rocket in share price is presumably because of the 6% jump in platinum output for South Africa.
